Flipped Learning allows for deeper discussion of controversial topics in class, more student involvement, and application of concepts during class (Baig & Yadegaridehkordi, 2023). Flipped learning often relies on software programs and different interactive online platforms that play an important role in student engagement outside of the classroom (Wang & Zhu, 2019). TopHat is a platform that allows instructors to curate content that is specific to their course and includes video and interactive components for students to engage with outside of class. After attending this session, participants will be able to: 1) describe the impact of Flipped Learning on learning outcomes, based on a review of the pedagogic literature; 2) describe how TopHat can facilitate Flipped Learning, using a second year introductory nutrition course as an example; 3) discuss challenges associated with using Flipped Learning in participants’ courses, and ways to overcome these challenges using TopHat or other online platforms.
