Workshop Proposals

Call for Proposals

This year we are excited to announce that we will again hold an open call for interactive workshop proposals. The submission deadline is March 3rd at midnight. Please see below for further details.

Workshop Date: Thursday, July 10, 2025

Duration: 2 hours (workshops are delivered 2x throughout the conference – AM and PM)

Delivery: Online or In-person

The McMaster Conference on Education and Cognition welcomes all educators, staff or learning specialists to submit a proposal for a highly interactive, engaging workshop. Workshops should foster multidisciplinary collaborative learning and discussion of ideas. Please review the submission criteria carefully prior to submission (find link below).

Submission Criteria

Author(s)

Proposals should be submitted by the corresponding author. All authors or co-authors should be listed in the submission form.

Organization(s)

List the organization and affiliation of each author listed in the proposal.

Title of Contribution

Provide the title of the proposal.

Keywords

Provide up to three keywords related to your workshop topic.

Format

Online or In Person

Categories

The EdCog 2025 Conference theme is “The Impact of Social Media on Teaching and Learning”. Social media (you tube, Instagram, Facebook, X (twitter), or online servers such as discord) all create opportunities for learning, social connection and increased opportunities for expression. There is also evidence that the use of these platforms may interfere with student cognition and wellbeing (inside and outside of the classroom). This years conference will discuss this topic from all perspectives.

Workshops can reflect this theme or include topics related to general educational or cognitive concepts. Please review the categories below(note that the list is not exhaustive and other topics are welcomed).

  • Social media’s impact on mind wandering

  • innovative integration of social media in the classroom

  • impact of social media on EDI

  • Student Attention and social media platforms

  • Equitable access and use of social media for all students

  • instructional design using social media

  • ethics and the use of social media in education

  • interdisciplinary teaching and learning using online platforms

  • using chat groups to connect students (inside and outside of the classroom)

  • use of youtube and social media in assessments

  • pedagogy and best practices in teaching

Abstract (Max 300 words)

Include importance of topic to teaching and learning, appropriate literature, and learning outcomes of the session. Workshop proposals must include a description of element(s) of engagement.

Provide up to three references, not included in the abstract word count.
